The Impact of AI on the Judiciary Sector

Harnessing AI for efficiency and equity

The use of AI in the judicial sector is being explored in several domain specific judicial bodies around the world.

Considering the high amount of caseload around the globe, the use of AI has great potential to support judicial activities resulting in more access to justice, transparency and accountability, reduction of costs, and decreased judicial lawsuit duration.

Nonetheless, its implementation process may also pose risks to justice values, such as impartiality and respect for fundamental rights.

Considering the rapid developments in this field, the challenges and opportunities related to harnessing AI in the field of justice and how AI-based systems can help judicial actors in their roles within the administration of justice has become part of discussions around AI.
