The Social & Economic Impact of AI

Society Panel, Lisbon AI Talks

Shaping a sustainable future with AI

A considerable amount of studies emphasize that AI will have expressive positive social and economic impact leading to strong economic and productivity growth, creation of new revenue streams and an overall improvement of labour efficiency.

This is however the optimistic view, and some people defend opposingly that AI can lead to the widening of the gap between developed and developing countries, massive economic disruption due to competition unbalances with the creation of AI super companies and a deepening of inequalities caused by the deployment of technology.

As AI global leaders emerge, and as geopolitical competition increases, we need to reflect on the impact of AI, especially attending the collective decisions that will determine our common future.

In this panel we will discuss these topics, the importance of regulation, the need for a common AI policy amongst other topics that translate the macro impact of AI.
